We’ve been trying to get Elizabeth May on the program for the past couple weeks but she is a very busy woman as you might imagine. I did manage to catch up with the MP for Saanich-Gulf Islands this week so on today’s show we hear her thoughts on the re-election of Barack Obama and what it means for Canada, the Conservative government’s new omnibus budget Bill C-45 and specifically their proposed changes to navigable waters legislation, the Cohen Commission report on the decline of salmon populations in BC and the looming Canada-China trade deal.

To kick off the program today, we talk about Hurricane Sandy and whether or not this storm, like many other record-setting weather events in recent years, is linked to global warming. We hear from our friend Alex Smith of Radio EcoShock in Vancouver about this who speaks with DAPHNE WYSHAM, long-time host of “Earthbeat” on Pacifica radio. Alex talked to Daphne in her home in Washington D.C., just as Hurricane Sandy was coming ashore.
We’ll also have our usual update from Ecology Ottawa on local environmental events and campaigns, and we hear the international eco-news headlines from Deutsche Welle Living Planet.
