Climate Threatens Birds From Tropics to Mountaintops

Climate Threatens Birds From Tropics to Mountaintops – NYTimes.com

One of the real tragedies of global warming is the number of species we will lose because they simply won’t be able to adapt quickly enough to a changing climate.

“Over the next 100 years, many scientists predict, 20 percent to 30 percent of species could be lost if the temperature rises 3.6 degrees to 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit. If the most extreme warming predictions are realized, the loss could be over 50 percent, according to the United Nations climate change panel.”

Your read that right -50 percent of all species. We’re talking about the extinction of millions and millions of plants, animals, insects, marine life in the next century. And we are currently on the worst-case climate change trajectory that scientists fear. But we won’t take any action because it might hurt our economy. If that isn’t the worst example of anthropocentrism, I don’t know what is.
